Emotions and Adventures to Experience Outdoors
There are many activities that will allow you to experience thrilling emotions in the Aventino Valley, with outdoor experiences for everyone. The Aventino Valley surrounds the Eastern Majella from Casoli to Palena with a succession of natural landscapes that seem taken from a fairy tale, easily accessible by car in less than 40 minutes from the Costa dei Trabocchi.
The valley takes its name from the river that flows through it, the Aventino, which originates from Mount Porrara by the confluence of the Cotaio stream and the Capo di Fiume spring, and follows a course of approximately 45 km. It is a very suggestive corner of Abruzzo, a land full of villages, forests, and valleys to be discovered thanks to the numerous outdoor activities that will allow you to live truly exciting experiences.
A territory suitable for everyone: adults, children, athletes, or beginners, with various possibilities to spend days outdoors immersed in unspoiled nature and experience outdoor emotions in the Aventino Valley.
RAFTING ON THE AVENTINO RIVER (and beyond)
One of the most popular water sports of the moment, rafting guarantees a fun-filled day with family or friends, ensuring enjoyment for everyone, even those less experienced. You descend the Aventino River aboard a special boat called a "raft" along with an expert guide who will accompany you on this thrilling, adrenaline-filled adventure.
Bring a swimsuit, towel, and water shoes; the rest of the necessary equipment for the activity will be provided by the Rafting Center (wetsuit, life jacket, helmet, and paddle). The Rafting Center is located in Contrada Forconi in the municipality of Civitella Messer Raimondo. For information and reservations, contact Abruzzo Adventures: +39 3351650598 (Domenico).
From the Costa dei Trabocchi, to reach the territory of the Aventino Valley, you cross another fascinating valley traversed by the Sangro River, which originates in the territory of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise, flows for 122 km, and then empties into the Adriatic Sea in the municipality of Torino di Sangro. For the less experienced, this river is ideal for getting familiar with rafting. For a few years now, it has been possible to practice soft rafting in the truly extraordinary setting of the Serranella Regional Nature Reserve—a very fun sport suitable for everyone from the age of 3. The Rafting Center Raft.En is located in the locality of Brecciaio in the municipality of Sant'Eusanio del Sangro. For information and reservations: +39 3471790079.

EXCURSION WITH OVERNIGHT STAY AT HIGH ALTITUDE
For trekking enthusiasts, there is the possibility of exploring the eastern part of the Mother Mountain by following the various trails of the Majella National Park, admiring breathtaking landscapes over the Aventino Valley, and with a bit of luck, encountering the Abruzzo chamois that live in the rocky part of the mountain.
We are in Lama dei Peligni, the village of sfogliatelle and chamois, and it is precisely from the parking lot of the Apennine Chamois Wildlife Area that the trail (H4) starts, leading to the Fonte Tarì Refuge, just under 2 hours of walking. The Refuge, located at 1540 meters, represents an excellent base for more challenging excursions, for example, towards Monte Amaro. Fonte Tarì is a well-equipped refuge with 11 beds (expandable to 16 with the addition of folding beds), a gas kitchen, a bathroom, electricity, and heating, as well as a water supply available all year round thanks to the spring from which the refuge takes its name.

Walking along the Park's trails, it is very likely to spot chamois, wolves, deer, birds of prey, or find traces of their passage.
A guided visit to the wildlife areas of the Aventino Valley will not only allow you to easily spot the specimens present in the area but also to learn about their history, nature, and come into direct contact with their habitat. An excursion that will entertain and spark curiosity in everyone, young and old. The wildlife areas that can be visited are:
- Apennine Chamois Wildlife Area (Lama dei Peligni)
- Deer Wildlife Area (Gamberale)
- Wolf Wildlife Area (Pretoro)
- Marsican Brown Bear Wildlife Area (Palena)
CLIMBING
For rock climbing enthusiasts, the Aventino Valley is a true playground, with several walls suitable for this sport located in various panoramic points. For experts, it is possible to climb the walls of Pennapiedimonte, Gole di Fara San Martino, and Palena. In the Val di Sangro area, we highlight the rocky walls of Pizzoferrato and Pennadomo and the wall of Villa Santa Maria, the highest rock wall in Abruzzo, located in the heart of the historic center of the town of chefs—truly very suggestive.
If you want to try the thrill and adrenaline of this sport for the first time or if you are a beginner, we recommend visiting the rock adventure park Vertical Park in Pennapiedimonte.
