15 Enological Stops Along the Costa dei Trabocchi
If you've decided to spend the summer on the Costa dei Trabocchi, cycling along the Via Verde, you'll pass through stunning marine landscapes as well as especially bucolic scenery dominated by vineyards—both old pergolas and new rows—among small artisanal wineries and wine cooperatives. A stop to recharge, taste, and learn about the wines of this incredible territory is a must.
We've compiled a list of the wineries along the Costa dei Trabocchi, from Vasto to Francavilla al Mare.
The listed wineries are all equipped for visits and tastings, as indicated in the "Percorsi" project by the Consorzio di Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo.
Tenuta Oderisio, Monteodorisio
The Di Candilo family has been producing wine here since 2004. Mario, an agronomist, started the company, which now also includes the active participation of his daughters, especially Simona, the house's enologist. The estate has approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, with a preference for the traditional Abruzzese pergola cultivation method. The grape varieties include Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano Abruzzese, Passerina, and Pecorino. In 2012, Syrah, a French variety from the Rhône Valley, was also planted.
Hospitality: The company offers classic cellar visits with wine and local product tastings, as well as picnics in the vineyard. Reservations are required. There is a point of sale for purchasing wine.
Fontefico, Vasto
Near the Punta Aderci Nature Reserve, the agricultural company Fontefico, run by the Altieri brothers, has been vinifying native varieties of the territory since 2006, including Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano Abruzzese, and Pecorino. The vineyards cover 13 hectares and produce 45,000 bottles per year. Organic farming is practiced in the vineyards, while in the cellar, spontaneous fermentations are used, and aging takes place in steel, wood, and concrete.
Hospitality: Fontefico has stood out in recent years for its varied offering of winery experiences. In addition to the classic guided tour with wine and local product tastings, it is possible to participate in a typical cooking course, a vertical tasting, and, between September and October, even in a tourist harvest. Reservations are required. There is a point of sale for purchasing wine.

The winemaker is Tommaso Olivastri, who, along with his family, produces wines exclusively from local varieties. In total, there are 15 hectares of vineyards spread between hills and sea. The whites Passerina, Pecorino, and Cococciola are born from the Tenuta l’Ariosa, just 15 meters above sea level, while the Montepulciano vineyards are located on the hilly estates of Colle Foresta and Marcantoni, at 127 meters above sea level, in an area characterized by clayey and calcareous soils.
Hospitality: The winery offers visits and tastings by reservation. There is a point of sale for purchasing wine.
Marino della Fazia, San Vito Chietino
The Marino della Fazia family has been cultivating vineyards on the Costa dei Trabocchi in the territory of San Vito Chietino for generations. Inverso Vini, Ortona
A young winery in Ortona run by Costanza Cieri and Nicola Cantoli, two lifelong friends who decided a few years ago to return to live in Abruzzo. They combined their respective family farms and created Inverso Vini: 70 hectares of vineyards and 11 different varieties spread between Crecchio and Ortona. Among the products, the organic “Posso” line stands out, with Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and Pecorino, as well as the “Radice” label with a “brut” sparkling wine made from Pecorino grapes and sparkling wine in Abruzzo with the Charmat method.
Hospitality: Inverso focuses on hospitality, offering classic winery visits with tastings, picnics in the vineyard, and aperitifs in the historic center of the seaside town of Ortona. It is possible to buy wines at the winery.

In the 1990s, it was one of the first to produce sparkling wines from Abruzzo varieties using the classic method.
Hospitality: The winery is home to the Wine Fountain along the San Tommaso Path, inaugurated in 2016, from which Montepulciano d’Abruzzo flows. The fountain is visited each year by thousands of tourists and pilgrims who travel the path connecting the cities of Rome and Ortona. The wine fountain can be accessed during the opening hours of the Cantina Dora Sarchese. There is a point of sale for purchasing wine.
